Overview

The Woodford Habitat Bank will transform former agricultural grassland into a diverse mosaic of species-rich neutral grassland and lowland meadow habitats, supporting long-term biodiversity recovery across the site. Existing modified grasslands will be enhanced through the cessation of artificial inputs, nutrient reduction via hay cutting and grazing, and the introduction of locally sourced wildflower seed or green hay to increase botanical diversity. Management will focus on creating varied sward structure through carefully timed mowing, aftermath grazing, and selective disturbance where required to encourage wildflower establishment and suppress dominant grasses. Hedgerow planting will further strengthen habitat connectivity and landscape resilience, particularly alongside adjacent SSSI habitats and LNRS priority areas. Over time, the site will develop into a resilient, wildlife-rich landscape that supports ecological connectivity, pollinators, farmland birds, and wider nature recovery objectives within Cornwall.
