Overview

The habitat creation area will transform former agricultural grassland into a more diverse mosaic of species‑rich neutral grassland and lowland meadow, supporting long‑term biodiversity recovery across the wider landscape. Existing modified grasslands will be enhanced through the removal of artificial inputs, gradual nutrient reduction via hay cutting and grazing, and the introduction of locally sourced wildflower seed or green hay to boost botanical diversity.

Management will prioritise developing a varied sward structure, using carefully timed mowing, aftermath grazing, and selective ground disturbance where needed to encourage wildflower establishment and prevent dominance by vigorous grasses. New hedgerow planting will strengthen ecological connectivity and improve landscape resilience, particularly given the site’s close relationship with the neighbouring SSSI.

Being situated next to a nationally important SSSI and within an area identified for Local Nature Recovery provides a strong foundation for wider ecological benefits. Over time, the site will evolve into a resilient, wildlife‑rich landscape that supports pollinators, farmland birds, and species moving between the SSSI and surrounding countryside, contributing meaningfully to nature recovery across the region.
